October 2012

Aloha Brethren,

September was both a month of celebration and bereavement. On the former, we commemorated a historic milestone of our Lodge, having reached its 160th anniversary. We also honored our Past Masters at our traditional Past Masters’ Night and Banquet. On behalf of the Lodge members and officers, I like to thank the PMs who have given so much of their time, energy and talents, making Hawaiian Lodge what it is today. The proverbial saying, “we appear tall because we stand on the shoulder of giants” who came before us is so true.

On the latter, we grieved because of the passing away of a dear brother -- Charles M. Guzman. Bro. Charley, a soft-spoken but knowledgeable guy, embodied the spirit of commitment. Not even his physical limitations such as impaired vision, diabetes, previous surgery, etc. could stop him from coming to the lodge or participating in our functions. His will has always made him find a way. He is greatly missed.

As we wind down into the last quarter of the year, I reiterate my appreciation and thanks to all the brethren and officers who have supported our programs and activities. This month, we will have the annual military night. I like to thank Bro. Chris Acosta and Bro. Angel Santos for coordinating this event.  In November, we look forward to a new initiative -- the International Night. To be officiated by a team of non-officers representing diverse national and ethnic backgrounds, this first-degree conferral event is envisioned to underscore the “universality of Masonry” and to remind us that “in every country and in every clime are Masons to be found.”

Finally, to all the brethren who tirelessly give their best for the Lodge and our Masonic Brothers, MAHALO!

May brotherly love prevail and every moral
and social virtue cement us.

Fraternally,

Brother Raymund Liongson
Worshipful Master, Hawaiian Lodge
